Noida, August 22, 2025 – The Noida dowry death case has taken a disturbing turn after police investigations revealed that the victim’s husband, Vipin, was allegedly having an affair and had a history of violence. His wife, Nikki, died under suspicious circumstances after being set on fire, while the family initially claimed it was caused by a cylinder blast.
Husband’s Affair and Assault Allegations
According to police sources, Nikki and her sister had earlier caught Vipin with another woman. In October last year, an FIR was registered against him after the woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair filed a complaint.
She accused Vipin of:
- Physically assaulting her when caught by Nikki.
- Forcing her into a vehicle with the help of his friend Tushar.
- Snatching her phone, verbally abusing her, and threatening to kill her.
The complaint highlighted a pattern of abuse and violence that preceded Nikki’s death.
Cylinder Blast Claim Contradicted
Nikki was admitted to Fortis Hospital on August 21, where the medical records initially stated that her burns were caused by a cylinder blast.
However, when police visited the crime scene, they found no evidence of a cylinder explosion. Instead, they recovered a thinner bottle and a lighter, raising suspicions of deliberate burning.
Police will now record the statement of the attending Fortis doctor to determine how the “cylinder blast” claim entered the report. The hospital’s CCTV footage will also be reviewed to check who accompanied Nikki at the time of admission.
Eyewitness Account: “In-Laws Set Her on Fire”
Nikki’s sister, Kanchan, has given a statement alleging that Nikki’s husband Vipin and his in-laws set her on fire and then fled.
- A neighbour, Devendra, reportedly rushed Nikki to the hospital.
- In contrast, the in-laws claim they themselves took her to the hospital, arguing, “If we had set her on fire, why would we take her there?”
Police are now verifying these conflicting claims using hospital CCTV footage.
Timeline of Events Under Scrutiny
Kanchan provided police with a video she recorded of Nikki engulfed in flames at 5:45 pm. This suggests the incident occurred around 5:44 pm.
Based on this timeline, investigators are:
- Examining call detail records (CDR) and location data of family members.
- Reviewing multiple viral videos circulating on social media.
- Analyzing CCTV cameras near the husband’s father’s shop, though footage from the time is missing due to a power outage.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are piecing together evidence from witness statements, hospital records, and electronic data to determine whether Nikki’s death was a case of dowry harassment and murder or if the in-laws’ defence holds up.
The case has sparked outrage on social media, with calls for justice for Nikki growing louder as new details emerge.
