Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir | August 5, 2025
The Indian Army has firmly denied recent media and social media reports suggesting a ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
In an official statement released on Tuesday evening, the Army said:
“There have been some media and social media reports regarding a ceasefire violation in the Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the Line of Control. We urge everyone to refrain from spreading unverified information.”
What Was Reported Earlier?
Earlier in the day, several media outlets, citing official sources, claimed that Pakistani troops had opened unprovoked fire on forward Indian positions in the Mankote sector of Poonch. According to PTI, this alleged firing incident marked the first ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor in May.
Reports also mentioned that the Indian Army retaliated strongly, and an exchange of small arms fire between the two sides lasted for nearly 15 minutes.
Context: Sixth Anniversary of Article 370 Abrogation
Interestingly, the reports of the alleged flare-up came on the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, a move that stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special constitutional status.
The timing of the reported incident led to heightened attention, especially as tensions in the region have remained sensitive following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor earlier this year.
Army Reaffirms Peace Along LoC
However, with the latest clarification, the Indian Army has confirmed that peace prevails along the LoC, and no violations have taken place. This strongly counters earlier claims and suggests that the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan remains intact.
The Army has also called for responsible reporting and advised against the circulation of unconfirmed or misleading information, particularly in such sensitive matters.
Background: Operation Sindoor and Recent Tensions
In May 2025, Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, leading to intense cross-border exchanges between India and Pakistan. Since then, both nations have worked towards reducing hostilities, with a mutual understanding to maintain peace along the border.
Conclusion
Despite earlier reports of a ceasefire breach in Poonch, the Indian Army’s official denial reaffirms that no such incident occurred. The situation along the LoC remains under control, and the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan continues to hold — at least for now.
